Boeing CEO Dave Calhoun has apologized to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) after the company violated investigation rules during a probe of a 737 MAX 9 mid-air emergency. The NTSB said Boeing provided non-public information and speculated on possible causes of the incident, which violated the board’s guidelines.
Calhoun said Boeing is reviewing its procedures to ensure future compliance with NTSB rules. He emphasized the company’s commitment to cooperating fully with the investigation.
However, due to the violation, the NTSB has taken action. The board will no longer share information with Boeing during the investigation and has barred the company from asking questions at an upcoming hearing. Additionally, the NTSB is referring Boeing’s actions to the Justice Department for further review.
This latest incident comes shortly after Boeing agreed to plead guilty to a criminal fraud conspiracy charge and pay a $243.6 million fine related to the two 737 MAX fatal crashes. The recent violation further highlights Boeing’s ongoing efforts to rebuild public trust and address ongoing concerns about its safety practices.
