Embraer subsidiary Eve has taken a significant step towards its air taxi vision by unveiling a full-scale prototype of its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The prototype, set to begin flying by late 2024 or early 2025, represents a crucial milestone for Eve, as it aims for certification in 2026.
The company has secured a $94 million investment from Embraer and Nidec, extending its cash runway through 2027. This funding ensures continued development throughout the certification process. The current prototype is non-conforming, lacking a cabin and pilot, allowing for aerodynamic testing and transition flights. The final version will be designed to carry four passengers and a pilot.

Eve is also planning to have five conforming prototypes ready by next year and a pre-series eVTOL in 2026. The company has already accumulated nearly 3,000 potential orders, demonstrating strong interest in its air taxi concept. Despite the challenges of widespread eVTOL adoption, including infrastructure and power grid limitations, Eve remains optimistic about the future of its flying taxi project.
