Nissan and Honda Join Forces to Develop Software Platform for EVs

Nissan and Honda, Japan’s second and third largest automakers, have announced a strategic partnership to develop a next-generation software platform for electric vehicles (EVs). The collaboration aims to enhance their competitiveness in the rapidly growing EV market, where they are facing challenges from companies like Tesla and BYD.

The partnership builds on a previous agreement signed in March, which focused on areas like battery technology, e-axles, and vehicle complementation. The latest agreement expands on this collaboration, with a specific focus on developing a software platform that will be critical for future EVs.

The companies also signed a separate memorandum of understanding with Mitsubishi Motors to discuss collaboration on vehicle electrification. This agreement aims to leverage each other’s expertise and resources to develop and deploy more efficient and advanced EVs.

The partnership will involve joint research and development efforts, with a focus on standardization of specifications for EV battery cell modules and e-axles. The companies also plan to explore procurement opportunities for lithium-ion batteries from a joint venture between Honda and LG Energy Solution.
