OpenAI Whistleblowers Accuse Company of Restrictive NDAs, SEC Investigation Requested

OpenAI whistleblowers have filed a complaint with the SEC, alleging that the company’s restrictive non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) violate federal whistleblower protections. The whistleblowers claim that OpenAI’s NDAs require employees to waive their rights to whistleblower compensation and obtain prior approval before disclosing information to federal regulators, including securities violations.

The whistleblowers request an SEC investigation into OpenAI’s NDA practices and fines for each improper agreement. They also seek access to all contracts containing NDAs, including employment, severance, and investor agreements.

Senator Chuck Grassley, who received the letter from the whistleblowers, expressed concerns about the potential chilling effect of OpenAI’s policies on whistleblowers’ ability to speak up.

The complaint comes amid growing concerns about the responsible deployment of AI technologies. OpenAI recently established a Safety and Security Committee to address these concerns.

This case could set a precedent for other AI companies and their NDA practices, with implications for the transparency and accountability of these powerful technologies.
