Paris Olympics: Rail Network Repaired After Sabotage Attacks; Investigation Ongoing

French authorities are investigating a series of arson attacks that disrupted rail services on the opening day of the Paris Olympics. The attacks targeted high-speed TGV lines, affecting hundreds of thousands of passengers. SNCF, the national train operator, has completed repairs and services are now running as normal.

The attacks, which occurred overnight into Friday, targeted the Atlantique, Est, and Nord lines, connecting Paris to Bordeaux, Strasbourg, and Lille respectively. The Nord line also carries Eurostar trains between Paris, London, and Brussels.

Investigators are exploring multiple theories regarding the perpetrators, including radical left-wingers and potential involvement from Russia. A letter claiming responsibility from a far-left group was reportedly received by several media outlets. Meanwhile, police arrested a Russian national suspected of “destabilization” activities during the Games.

Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin has stated that authorities are confident they will identify the perpetrators. The investigation is ongoing.
